Artist's Statement

Hi, I am Xanthe Indigo.  I am delighted by the small details of life around me: the reflection of a soaring hawk in a puddle on a dirt road, the shadows of plants, pottery made by children, and notes left in abandoned buildings. I love nature without traces of human contact, and the city, worn, dirtied, cleaned, and rebuilt by human hands. I was raised by my working artist parents and brother and have learned from and been shaped by their balance of commitment to family and dedication to their crafts. I was raised by my small, tight-knit beach town, which has taught me to value and uphold community, mediate and resolve conflicts, and have empathy for everyone I meet. My art is inspired by community above all else: Symbiotic relationships in natural ecosystems, as well as the stories, histories, and the day to day lives of the carpenters, painters, farmers, chefs, fishermen, surfers, and muddy-shoed, wild kids of my town.
